Neshaminy Manor Residents, Staff Stage Celebration of Television History
Commissioners Applaud Entertainment Initiative at 360-Bed, County-Operated Long-Term Care Nursing Facility

As a means of generating excitement for all six wings of their 360-bed nursing facility in Warrington, Neshaminy Manor Dining Services General Manager Mary Jo Coonahan and Director of Recreation Kathy Bates came up with a unique idea. It centered upon the past 50 years of television – and residents’ stories of their favorite shows over the years. Each of the six units selected a famous TV show and character, creating a TV Guide cover to display at the entrance to the event.

Neshaminy ManorShows that were selected by the residents included All In The Family, I Love Lucy, Mary Tyler Moore, and The Carol Burnett Show. The event included theme songs, costumes (including Archie Bunker), and video clips. The meal consisted of fried chicken, mashed potatoes and peas and carrots – presented in an authentic TV dinner tray, just like original TV dinners served during the 1960’s.

“This event provides yet another example of ways that our Neshaminy Manor staff goes above and beyond to provide a superb quality of life for residents,” noted Charles H. Martin, chairman of the Board of Bucks County Commissioners. “It was a team effort between departments that enabled the Dining Services and Activities team to share this program with a large audience of residents and family members.”

Because there are six units of 60 residents, the event was held six separate times, underscoring Neshaminy Manor’s mission: “Making Residents the Heart of Everything We Do!” For more information about Neshaminy Manor, please click here.
