Commissioners Appoint Brian M. Duke Director of Bucks County Area Agency on Aging (AAA)

During its bi-monthly meeting today in New Hope, the Board of Bucks County Commissioners approved the hiring of Brian M. Duke as the director of the Area Agency on Aging (AAA). Duke, who holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Scranton, an M.H.A. from George Washington University and an MBE in Bioethics from the University of Pennsylvania, will assume his duties next month. His annual salary will be $78,000.

“I would like to extend my thanks to the commissioners for the opportunity to serve older citizens of Bucks County,” Duke said. “With the census numbers and straight-line population projections, the demand for existing services is going to continue to grow.” Current estimates indicate that more than 110,000 residents in Bucks County have reached the age of 60.

For the last two years, Duke has served as the executive director of the New Jersey Foundation for Aging, a statewide non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of older persons. His responsibilities included fundraising, grant making, enhancing public awareness, policy research and professional development.

His career has included a variety of professional experiences, and he also has served as co-chair of the Bucks County Commissioners’ Senior Task Force. In that capacity, he collaborated on a needs assessment and Summit on Aging, where he worked with former Bucks County Human Services Director Charles A. Kane to inspire the formation of municipal coalitions exploring civic engagement, community services and life-long learning.

Duke, who resides in Washington Crossing, also has served as the director of geriatric program initiatives for the University of Pennsylvania Health System (1998-2002), as a public and private consultant with Brian M. Duke Associates (2002-present), and as the administrative director of physical medicine and rehabilitation center for Saint Mary Medical Center in Langhorne (1988-1994).

“We feel extremely fortunate to be able to hire a director of Brian’s caliber,” Commissioner Chairman Charles H. Martin noted. “He will be a valuable asset to all of the individuals our Area Agency on Aging serves so capably.”
