Churchville Nature Center Presents $600,000 to County for Three-Phase, Green Expansion Project

Commissioner Martin speaks, while Comissioner Miller and Cawley look on.Back in 1964, a small group of citizens stood in front of bulldozers preparing to level land in Northampton Twp., a site that is now the home to the Churchville Nature Center – one of Bucks County’s preserved ecological treasures. Forty-three years later, Churchville Nature Center is poised to undergo a three-phase, “green” capital expansion project that will include a new welcome center, an expanded gift shop, a nature research and discovery room, an expanded education room, an environmental science lab, a public sitting area and an enlarged exhibit area.

During a news conference today, Churchville Nature Center Naturalist Chris Stieber and Friends of Churchville Nature Center Board of Directors member Roy Reinard joined with Bucks County Commissioners Charles H. Martin, chairman, James F. Cawley, Esq., and Sandra A. Miller and Commissioners accept a check from PECO.representatives from the private sector, including PECO’s Jeff Gordon, to kickoff Phase I of the project. The news conference included schematic drawings of the project, an explanation of the benefits, and presentation of a $600,000 check from the Friends of Churchville Nature Center and a $100,000 check from PECO. Other fundraising contributors include DCED, DCNR, McClean Contributionship and Aqua America.
