Commissioner Sandra A. Miller Honored By Bucks County Prison Oversight Board
Outgoing Chair Lauded for Distinguished Service to Corrections Community

During its final monthly meeting of 2007, today in the courthouse Lawyer’s Lounge, the Bucks County Prison Oversight Board celebrated one of its own for a meritorious two-year tenure as chair. Commissioner Sandra A. Miller, who assumed the role of chair during January, 2006, spearheaded an oversight group that helped the Bucks County Correctional Facility (BCCF) achieve its second consecutive 100-percent compliance score from the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.

Commissioner Miller gives Commissioner Cawley a piece of cake when she was honored at the Prison Oversight Board meeting.“I am quite proud of our correctional facilities,” Commissioner Miller noted. “Again this summer, the BCCF – under the direction of Harris Gubernick – achieved a 100-percent compliance score from Pennsylvania Department of Corrections inspectors. This perfect score represented the second consecutive 100 Bucks County has received (2005).”

Bucks County President Judge David Heckler thanked Commissioner Miller for her dedication to the board, observing: “What a pleasure it has been to work with you as our chairman. You have made substantial contributions. We will miss you and your leadership.”

Before enjoying a large chocolate sheet cake that paid tribute to “Miller Time,” Commissioner Miller received an engraved crystal plaque from Director Gubernick and the other board members, including fellow commissioners Charles H. Martin and James F. Cawley, Esq., Controller Ray McHugh, and members of the Corrections administration team. The plaque lauded Commissioner Miller for her efforts to “outstanding leadership in moving forward the vision” of the Bucks County Department of Corrections.

Prior to the next meeting of the Prison Oversight Board, which will take place during early January, 2008, the board’s nominating committee will meet to make recommendations for next year’s officers.
