Mood's Covered Bridge Rebuilt and Reopened
Commissioners Formally Accept Ownership of Bridge at Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
At a ribbon cutting ceremony today, the Bucks County Commissioners formally accepted ownership of the newly restored Mood’s Coverage Bridge in Perkasie, East Rockhill Township. The rebuilding project was a partnership between PennDOT, Bucks County and East Rockhill Township.
The original bridge, built in 1874, was destroyed by fire in June 2004. The wooden timbers on the new bridge have been coated with a fire retardant material.
“Covered bridges are an integral part of Bucks County’s historic landscape,” said Commissioner Chairman Jim Cawley, “The county is proud to take ownership and preserve this bridge for generations to come.” Cawley was joined at the ceremony by fellow commissioners Charles H. Martin and Diane M. Ellis Marseglia.
PennDOT turned over ownership of the bridge to Bucks County once renovations were complete; East Rockhill will provide the bridge’s insurance coverage.
The county now owns seven of the 12 coverage bridges within Bucks County.
