Bucks County Commissioner Jim Cawley Spends Morning with Staff at Domestic Relations Offices

Continuing his practice of working with various departments within county government to gain a first-person perspective, Commissioner Chairman Jim Cawley spent the morning Tuesday with the staff of the Domestic Relations office in Doylestown.

Commissioner Cawley at Domestic RelationsCommissioner Cawley toured the offices and met a large portion of the 87 staff members. Director Laura LoBianco, a 23-year veteran of the office, explained the workings of her staff, including: the five phone center employees who handle over 300 calls a day; the 21 officers who conference with clients or in court with them; and the three employees whose job is to track down non-paying parents.  Cawley also sat with the Domestic Relations staff as Judge Alan Rubenstein read the call of the list to a packed courtroom.

“Working within the Domestic Relations department gave me a good understanding of the difficult circumstances they handle on a daily basis,” said Commissioner Cawley. “The employees are dedicated, patient, and understanding of citizens who are going through a highly stressful experience.”

Bucks County Domestic Relations is a court-related department that assists the public in filing to establish a court ordered child or spousal support obligation.  This office also administers, collects, and enforces such court support orders once they are established.
