Bucks County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Advises of Weekend Flood Warning for Delaware River Communities
As a public service, the Bucks County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) advises Delaware River-area residents that the National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the upcoming weekend.
Forecasters are calling for an inch of rain through midnight tonight, with one to two inches of additional rain continuing through daylight hours tomorrow. As a result of this storm and heavy rains that occurred earlier this week, current forecasts project that the Delaware River will crest at approximately two feet above the flood stage of 22 feet at 7 a.m., Sunday, March 9, at Riegelsville. By way of comparison, the flood of late June, 2006, had a projected Riegelsville crest of 13.4 feet above flood stage, reaching an actual crest of 13.6 feet above flood stage on June 29, 2006.
In Trenton, the Delaware River is expected to crest at a foot above flood stage of 20 feet at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 9. Back on June 29, 2006, the river crested at 5.09 feet above flood stage.
The EMA also advises residents along the Neshaminy Creek that the creek is projected to crest near the flood stage of nine feet during the upcoming storm.
Bucks County EMA officials will be updating local emergency management coordinators in the affected municipalities as information becomes available. For updates on the developing river and creek conditions, please visit the official Bucks County Web site, www.BucksCounty.org.
Looking Ahead
Today, Commissioner Chairman Jim Cawley sent a letter to Governor Rendell on behalf of him and his fellow commissioners, Charles H. Martin and Diane M. Ellis-Marseglia, taking the governor up on an offer to meet with local officials and residents to discuss the role of the commonwealth in decisions on managing the Delaware River, and reducing future flood damages. The commissioners are optimistic that the governor will respond quickly to the call for a meeting. Click here to view the letter.
