Bucks County’s First Full-Time Solicitor to Retire
Guy Matthews Served Bucks Countians for Nearly Two Decades

Chief Operating Officer David Sanko announced that Guy Matthews, Bucks County’s first full-time county solicitor, has submitted a letter of intent to retire. The letter addressed to the chairman of the commissioners cites health concerns as the reason for his resignation.

An advertisement is running today in The Law Reporter, a publication of the Bucks County Bar Association, according to Sanko.  Applicants must be licensed to practice law before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, and hold private practice in abeyance for the term of their employment. The county solicitor is a full-time position that provides legal counsel and representation to the commissioners and several departments, and oversees a staff of assistant solicitors. Additionally, the solicitor appoints and supervises outside counsel.  Resumes accompanied by salary requirements are due to the county’s Human Resources Department by Friday, March 28.

Matthews has been in private practice since 1971, served as assistant solicitor in Bucks County beginning in May 1989, was appointed solicitor in 2001, and undertook full-time responsibilities in January 2006. A Langhorne resident, he looks forward to spending more time with his wife Linda and their family.
