Bucks County’s Carmen Thome Saluted Among YWCA Women Who Make a Difference
Carmen Thome, director of Human Resources for the County of Bucks, was honored last night during the 17th annual YWCA of Bucks County’s Salute to Women Who Make a Difference. She and her husband and children were joined by Commissioners Jim Cawley and Charley Martin, and Chief Operating Officer Dave Sanko during a celebration at Spring Mill Manor. Over a dozen other honorees attended the awards dinner.
“Carmen Thome is a professional who, on a daily basis, comes to work to help match job seekers with the right positions in the county, develop those employees into positions of greater responsibility, and advise our management team in a variety of matters of import to all of us,” Cawley noted. “I am proud to recognize Carmen tonight as a woman who makes a difference, and I am proud to support the fine work of the Bucks County YWCA.”
As a member of the commissioners’ senior management team, Mrs. Thome provides oversight of the county’s largest workforce of more than 2,600 employees. She serves as chief advisor to the commissioners, chief operating officer, division leaders and other elected officials with regard to policies, employee benefits, conflict resolution and union negotiations.
Since she joined the county more than 10 years ago, Mrs. Thome has helped thousands men and women from throughout the region find employment in public service positions ranging from nurses, corrections officers and information technologists to case workers, park rangers and sheriff’s deputies.
In 1994, Mrs. Thome earned the “Macy*s Northeast Division Human Resources Leadership Award” from her former employer. She enjoys parenting three high-school and college-aged children, and volunteers with the Central Bucks West High School basketball and soccer teams. A graduate of the University of South Carolina, she also earned her Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification from Villanova University.
