Commissioners Cut Ribbon on Scenic County Bridges in Solebury Twp.
As ribbons of mid-day sunlight pierced the trees May 20 above Solebury Township’s meandering Cuttalossa Rd., Bucks County Commissioners Charles H. Martin, chairman, James F. Cawley, Esq. and Diane M. Ellis-Marseglia, LCSW officially re-dedicated a pair of “rehabilitated,” two-lane bridges.
After snipping the red, white and blue ribbon on Bridge No. 355, the board joined county Director of Operation Jerry Anderson, Director of Special Projects Joe Bush and Solebury Township Supervisor Chairman Mike Kennerley to walk two-tenths of a mile down the road to re-open Bridge No. 169. The latter bridge includes a bit of instruction, as well, bearing a small sign that reads: “Warning: Snakes under Bridge.”
“This is truly a spectacular setting,” Chairman Martin observed while touring an historic artist’s studio that is situated on the property between the two bridges. “We are happy to have these projects completed for the residents who rely on the bridges for their daily transportation.”
The repair work on the bridges, which are two of the 115 which the county owns and maintains, cost just under $200,000. They bracket the Historic Cuttalossa Farm, which breeds and markets “Registered Olde English Miniature Babydoll Pet Sheep,” which are also known as the “Smiling Sheep.”
Last year, the Historic Cuttalossa Farm was featured in the Life Magazine hard-cover publication, “Dream Destinations,” which selected Bucks County as one of the top 100 travel destinations in the world.
