Bucks County Board of Elections Unanimously Rejects Four Proposed Voting District Relocations - Two Others Approved; One Tabled
The Bucks County Board of Elections, Chairman James F. Cawley, Esq., Commissioner Charles H. Martin and Commissioner Diane M. Ellis-Marseglia, LCSW, met this week in the Pearl S. Buck Room of the Doylestown branch of the Bucks County Free Library.
In advance of the Special Election of September 29, 2009, which will determine the Pennsylvania State Senator for the 24th Senatorial District, the board unanimously rejected four proposed relocations involving Quakertown Community School District elementary schools. Those polling places will remain at their original locations. Anyone having questions about their polling place can call the Board of Elections at 215-348-6154.
The Board of Elections resolved to reach out to the members of the Quakertown Community School District School Board about the matter. Several members of the public were present at the meeting to voice their opposition to the proposed relocations.
The board approved a temporary move for the Sept. 29 Special Election that involves the Springfield Township West voting district. That decision will move the voting district from Zion Lutheran Church on Old Bethlehem Pike to Springfield Church of the Brethren, which is located at 920 Passer Rd. This is a temporary move, and voters will return to Zion Lutheran Church for the Nov. 3 General Election. Approximately 1,100 voters will be sent a postcard notifying them of the temporary change. The cost of this mailing will be submitted to the Pennsylvania Department of State for reimbursement.
In addition, the board tabled the relocation Warrington Township 1 from the Warrington Fire Company #1 on Freedoms Way and approved the relocation of the Warrington Township 5 voting district to the Warrington Fellowship Church (2233 Bristol Rd.) for the Nov. 3 General Election. The county Voter Registration office will issue new voting ID cards for those registered in Warrington Township 5, who previously voted at Tamanend Middle School (1492 Stuckert Rd.). The school is under construction for the next 9-12 months.
