With Flu Season upon Us, Bucks County Health Department Announces Seasonal Flu Drill Locations
Today, the Bucks County Health Department and Emergency Management Agency are announcing four sites that will serve as mass-vaccination locations for the county’s fourth-annual Pandemic Flu Drill. The drill will not only immunize county residents against the seasonal flu, but also prepare county officials and citizens for a Pandemic Flu mass-vaccination scenario. In order to infuse as much realism as possible, the county is asking for maximum public participation. (It is important to note that seasonal flu does not protect from H1N1. That vaccine is not yet available.)
The fourth-annual event will be held on Saturday, October 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the following four locations. Residents should go to the location closest to their home.
Pennridge South Middle School – 610 South 5th St, Perkasie, PA 18944
Unami Middle School – 160 South Moyer Road, Chalfont, PA 18914
Log College Middle School – 730 Norristown Rd, Warminster, PA 18974
Rohm & Haas – 3100 State Rd, Croydon PA 19021
Generally, those 9 years old and older are eligible to receive a free flu shot. You are not eligible if you have an egg allergy, latex allergy, a severe reaction to a previous immunization, a history of Guillan-Barre Syndrome or feel moderately or severely ill, with or without a fever.
“It is more important than ever for residents to prepare themselves for this upcoming flu season and take all necessary precautions,” noted Health Department Director Dr. David Damsker who encourages all those medically eligible to get a seasonal flu vaccine. It is important to note that this vaccine protects against seasonal flu and not HIN1. Information about the availability of that vaccine will be announced as it becomes available.
The Health Department would like residents to take the following steps to protect your health:
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze
- Wash your hands often and avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth, or use hand sanitizer when soap & water are unavailable
- Avoid close contact with sick people
- If you are sick, stay home & remain home 24 hours after your fever breaks
- Follow public health advice regarding school closures, avoiding crowds, and other social distancing measures if necessary
