Commissioners Join Law Enforcement Dignitaries to Illuminate County “Project Blue Light” Wreath
During a ceremony in the courthouse rotunda, Bucks County Commissioner Chairman Charles H. Martin joined Bucks County Police Chiefs’ Association President William Wiegman, Sheriff Edward “Duke” Donnelly and Northampton Township Police Chief Barry Pilla to illuminate the county’s first-ever Project Blue Light wreath.
The six-foot circular wreath was donated by Bucks Country Gardens of Doylestown and boasts 400 blue lights, which pay tribute to the 11 Bucks County law enforcement officers who have perished in the line of duty since 1927. Fittingly, it overlooks the Bucks County courthouse courtyard, which also features memorials to fallen county heroes from each armed conflict dating back to the Civil War.
“I hope those driving up North Main Street will look at this wreath and remember those we have lost during this holiday season,” Chairman Martin said, making special note of the Jan. 29, 2009 vehicular homicide of Middletown Township’s Christopher Jones.
Sheriff Donnelly expressed the hope that the county Project Blue Light ceremony continues to grow, even as those who protect Bucks County’s communities remain safe.
