Commissioner Jim Cawley Makes a Special Delivery to Sol Feinstone Elementary, Upper Makefield

Commissioner Cawley answers a student's question.Bucks County Commissioner Jim Cawley had a special package for Nancy Stoudt’s fifth-grade gifted social studies class at Sol Feinstone Elementary, and he came to deliver it in person.

The class has been following the 21st Century alliance which is Bucks County’s sister- region pact with Namdong District, Republic of Korea.  Now the class at Sol Feinstone Elementary will have a hands-on ability to support this budding relationship.

Commissioner Cawley brought the students their first pen-pal letters from a group of Korean fifth-graders.  The beautifully decorated cards with personalized messages arrived special delivery to Commissioner Diane Marseglia through the International Affairs Office of Namdong District.  Also included in the package were individual e-mail addresses for the students from Namdong.

Commissioner Cawley spoke to the class about his trip to Namdong District in October 2009.  They discussed culture, government, climate, food, even the plane ride.

The same class also came to the Bucks County Courthouse in December to witness the unveiling of a special painting that was a gift to Bucks County from the people of Namdong District.  The painting is on display in the 3rd floor rotunda.

The students in Bucks County are very excited to correspond with the children from Korea.  Even though they are half a world away, the two fifth-grade classes will be able to get to know each other, culture-to-culture, student-to-student, kid-to-kid.
