County Offices Collaborating to Help Those in Need of Parking Garage Assistance

As the County of Bucks proceeds with Phase 2 of the Judicial Center construction – the demolition of the former county Parking Garage – county departments are working collaboratively to assist employees and members of the public in walking safely from the new Parking Garage to the current Courthouse/Administration Building. This effort also includes assistance for those with disabilities and other mobility and medical needs in finding suitable parking accommodations closer to the Courthouse and Administration Building.

The new 1,200-space Bucks County Parking Garage is located on Broad St. in Doylestown Borough, between Union and Doyle streets. It features four levels of parking and three public entrances/exits. Since June 30, when the new Parking Garage opened to the public, there have been numerous inquiries regarding the walking distance from the new garage to the Courthouse.

The Human Resources department is working with the Department of Security to ensure that employees with disabilities have the opportunity to apply for a parking accommodation.
This effort has been expanded to any member of the public traveling to the Courthouse for business and jury duty. The county has established a dedicated, Parking Accommodation Hotline, that members of the public can call for assistance. That number is 215-348-6600. Interested parties are advised to call as far in advance as possible of their visit to the Courthouse.

While the Board of Bucks County Commissioners would like to emphasize that the walk from the new Parking Garage to the Courthouse and Administration Building is a temporary situation for many, it is also an opportunity to don walking shoes, take a deep breath and enjoy the scenic beauty of Doylestown Borough.

In addition to the Parking Accommodation Hotline (215-348-6600), the county General Services department maintains an information line regarding the demolition of the old Parking Garage and the construction of the new Judicial Complex on N. Main St. That telephone number is 215-349-3949.

The commissioners offer the following tips for a safe walk from the Parking Garage to the Courthouse:

  • Allow yourself extra time to get to the Courthouse. Remember the adage, “Haste makes waste.”
  • Choose footwear that is appropriate for the weather conditions.
  • Be alert for potential slippery areas on walkways and crosswalks.
  • Be aware of warning signs and/or off-limit signs (particularly during the demolition of the old Parking Garage).
  • NEVER cross an intersection against the green light.
