County Emergency Communications to Offer “Citizens’ Academy for
9-1-1” Program October 23
September is National Preparedness Month and the Board of Bucks County Commissioners encourages all residents and their families to prepare themselves in the face of a natural disaster or medical emergency. The County of Bucks participates in Ready Region, an ongoing, five-county southeastern Pennsylvania public education campaign designed to raise awareness of the significance of preparedness. There are a few simple but significant steps everyone can take should we need to be in our homes for a prolonged period of time – which include “Get A Kit,” “Make a Plan,” “Be Informed,” and “Get Involved. Residents can also stay informed by signing up for local emergency alerts at http://www.readynotifypa.org.
Doing its part to educate county citizens, Bucks County Emergency Communications will hold a 9-1-1 academic program on Saturday, October 23, 2010. “Citizens’ Academy for 9-1-1” will provide Bucks County citizens with an overview of the county 9-1-1 emergency communications system, how dispatchers interact with the public, emergency responders and each other during the course of a call to the emergency communications center. The eight-hour session will be conducted at the Bucks County Emergency Services Complex at 911 Freedom Way, Ivyland, PA.
An on-line application is available on the Emergency Communications website for those interested in participating: http://www.buckscounty.org/government/departments/EmergencyServices/EmergencyCommunications/
Training.aspx. Individuals can fax the completed form to 267-885-1322.
Due to the secure and confidential environment of emergency communications each applicant will be required to comply with the terms and conditions of the Citizens’ Academy for 9-1-1 program as well as being screened for criminal background prior to acceptance into the program.
