Commissioners Conduct 2011 Budget Public Hearing

On Monday, December 6, Bucks County Commissioners Charles H. Martin, chairman, James F. Cawley, Esq. and Diane M. Ellis-Marseglia, LCSW joined Chief Operating Officer Brian Hessenthaler and Director of Finance & Administration David Boscola to conduct a public hearing to discuss the proposed 2011 county budget.

Mr. Boscola explained that his staff continues to work with county departments to address an $8.8 million shortfall between revenues and expenditures. The proposed 2011 county budget is $463.9 million, almost half of which is devoted to the Human Services division.

After Mr. Boscola completed a PowerPoint presentation (to view that information click here), Commissioner Ellis-Marseglia offered a list of suggestions to trim the $8.8 million shortfall. Chairman Martin and Commissioner Cawley agreed to consider their colleague’s list prior to the anticipated adoption of the 2011 budget – which is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 15 at the Bucks County Visitors Center in Bensalem.

In addition, the commissioners voted to freeze the board members salary for the four-year period 2012-2015, and set row office salaries for the upcoming years. For a complete audio version of the public budget hearing, please click on the link here.
