Bucks County Re-Opens County Bridge No. 256 in Milford Township upon Completion of Emergency Repairs

Following $126,100 of emergency repairs to Bucks County Bridge No. 256 on Nursery Rd. over the Unami Creek in Milford Township, the county General Services department re-opened the bridge to traffic today. The 15-foot, 6-inch wide by 119-foot long single span steel pratt truss bridge was closed during August, 2011, when an interim inspection revealed critical deficiencies to the structure.

Bridge 256 in Milford TownshipDuring its September 21, 2011 business meeting, the Board of Bucks County Commissioners approved an emergency repair contract with Bill Anskis Company of Elysburg. At that time, county Director of Operations Jerry Anderson projected that the work would take “60-90 days.” “We are happy to re-open this bridge to traffic. We’d also like to thank the residents who utilize it for their patience while this important emergency work was completed,” Commissioner Chairman Charles H. Martin stated.

Repair work consisted of rehabilitation of all four steel truss bearings and seats, miscellaneous structural steel repairs, re-pointing of stone masonry abutments and wing walls, placement of bridge signage, and underpinning of an undermined portion of the stone masonry abutment.

County Bridge No. 256 is one of 115 bridges owned and maintained by the County of Bucks General Services department.
