Bucks County Elder Law Handbook and Resource Guide Available as a New Tool for Residents
During a December 1 news conference in the rotunda of the Bucks County Courthouse, Commissioner Vice Chairman Robert G. Loughery joined county Area Agency on Aging (AAA) Director Najja Orr and Bucks County Bar Association Past President Tom Donnelly for an important announcement. The Bucks County Elder Law Handbook and Resource Guide is now available to county residents at no cost. Published in partnership by the Bar Association and the Bucks County AAA, this publication for Bucks County seniors was made possible through a $20,000 grant provided by the Board of Bucks County Commissioners.
The Bucks County Elder Law Handbook and Resource Guide is designed to provide information about legal issues facing Bucks County senior citizens, their caregivers and families. The Bucks County Bar Association published this guide to help seniors make appropriate choices in order to maximize personal autonomy, minimize costs, gain an understanding of applicable legal concepts, and protect themselves against deception and fraud. It was made possible through consultation with Bucks County attorneys who volunteered their time and expertise.
“We would like to extend our thanks to Tom Donnelly, past president of the Bucks County Bar Association, and Deanna Mindler, executive director of the Bar Association, as well as Najja Orr of the Area Agency on Aging,” Commissioner Loughery stated. “No matter the financial position of the senior this resource is a valuable tool.”
The Elder Law Handbook and Resource Guide contains a listing of more than 25 resources for older adults and their families compiled by the Bucks County AAA and covers such diverse topics as financial planning, property tax and rent rebates, Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, Veterans’ benefits, PACE and PACENET (prescription benefit programs), and the Pennsylvania Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
Free copies of the Elder Law Handbook and Resource Guide are available through the Bucks County Bar Association and the Commissioners’ Office of Public Information (5th Floor, Bucks County Courthouse, 55 E. Court St., Doylestown, PA 18901).
