Bucks County Register of Wills and Clerk of the Orphans’ Court Elected President of Statewide Association

August 7, 2017

A message from the Bucks County Register of Wills Office--

DOYLESTOWN, PA –Bucks County Register of Wills, Don Petrille, was elected as the President of The Registers of Wills and Clerks of the Orphans’ Court Association of Pennsylvania at their annual conference last week in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The new post is a high honor for the second term row officer who vows to use his position to help his peers influence probate and adoption policies, as well as streamline judicial procedures across the Commonwealth.

The Registers of Wills and Clerks of Orphans' Court Association was formed in 1927 to facilitate collaboration and cooperation between the 67 county registers of wills and seventeen county clerks of the Orphans’ court who do not serve as registers.  Registers are responsible for issuing letters testamentary and letters of administration in decedent’s estate, and they often conduct hearings concerning disputed matters.  Clerks of the Orphans’ Court process court cases concerning estate disputes, guardianships of incapacitated persons and adoptions.  Clerks also issue marriage licenses.  The Association promotes greater efficiency in the administration of its members’ offices and works to advance policies which simplify the probate, adoption and guardianship systems in the Commonwealth, while protecting beneficiaries and incapacitated persons.

“Our members are at the foundation of the legal system.  They help families in distress with the orderly transfer of property.  They are on the front lines to making sure our most vulnerable citizens are protected.  They are there when lifetime bounds are formed, and when new branches are grafted to family trees.  I’m honored to have the confidence of many experienced leaders from across our great state,” said Petrille, 44, of Bedminster Township.  “I’m looking forward to building on our previous accomplishments by offering the best training for our members and the lawyers and agencies who touch our offices,” said Petrille.

Don Petrille is Bucks County’s Register of Wills and Clerk of the Orphans’ Court.  He took office in 2012.  He has served as the Legislative Liaison for the Registers of Wills and Clerks of the Orphans’ Court Association of Pennsylvania since 2016 and founded that Association’s training committee.  Petrille regularly teaches CLE seminars for the Bucks County Bar Association and the Pennsylvania Bar Institute.  He is also the Vice President of the Pennsylvania State Association of Elected County Officials and a member of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission’s County Records Committee.  He lives in Bedminster Township with his wife, Andrea and his two daughters.
