Notary Information

Please note: Refer all questions concerning the application to either your State Senator or Pennsylvania Department of State.

A notary public applicant must meet the following eligibility requirements for an appointment:

  • Be at least 18 years old

  • Be a resident of or be employed within the Commonwealth

  • Be of good character, integrity and ability

Application, Process and Instructions

To be sworn in as a Notary Public, you must bring your bond and photo ID to the Recorder of Deeds office. The fee for swearing in is $38.50; the signature card fee is $4.25. IF PAYING BY CHECK MAKE ONE CHECK OUT TO: Recorder of Deeds. There is a small credit card processing fee if paying with credit card. Fees include the recording of your commission and bond. Upon completion, we will take your signature card to the Prothonotary's Office.

The Recorder of Deeds Office is currently open by either walk-in or by appointment. Please call the number above to schedule if you wish to make an appointment. Masks are required in the office.
