Genealogical and Archival Search Requests

Our Archive Research Center is open to the public!  No appointment is required to visit.  You are welcome to come into our office on the third floor of the Courthouse and discover for yourself the wealth of information available.

The Bucks County Register of Wills and Clerk of the Orphans’ Court records date back to 1684.  The complete set of microfilm records for these files can be found in our Archive Research Center.  Also, Register of Wills original documents on-site dating from 1684 to1936 are available for review as well as the original files for the past five years.  All other original records are stored off-site and are available with advance request.

Please keep in mind that there are charges for searches, copies of documents or certified records.  You may also request records in person or through the mail.  Please include a self-addressed envelope with your request.  The most common research fees are:

Genealogical Search Request (1684 - 1950) - Index Search by Name

$25.00 per name
Non-refundable, even if no record is found.

Hours of Operation: The Register of Wills/Clerk of the Orphans' Court is open for virtual appointments and limited in person appointments within the Administration building. Please call to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins will not be accepted. The office will be open extended hours until 7:30 pm on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month (for virtual appointments). You may reach us at 215-348-6265.

  • Before seeking an appointment, we ask the Bar and public to seriously consider whether the specific matter at issue would be considered exigent circumstances by an objective observer.
  • Access to the Register of Wills/Clerk of Orphans’ Court office on the Sixth Floor of the Administration Building is now limited. A system is being implemented by which all emergency business before the Register/Clerk will be conducted in an alternative reception area on the Second Floor of the Administration Building.
  • All visitors, including members of the bar with passes allowing access to the Administration Building, are asked to check in with the security officers.
