Another incoming blast of Arctic air has prompted Bucks County’s third Code Blue declaration of this month as overnight temperatures in the low single-digits, accompanied by extreme wind chills, are expected by mid-week. Code-Blue

The declaration, made by the Bucks County Board of Commissioners in conjunction with the county Departments of Health and Emergency Management, is effective at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, and will extend until 7 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 3.

For the duration of the Code Blue period, adults-only overnight shelters will be open in Lower, Central and Upper Bucks County for those in need of cold-weather housing. No one under age 18 will be admitted.

In addition to the extremely cold temperatures and wind chill, the National Weather Service predicts a strong likelihood of rain and/or snow ushering in the cold on Tuesday.

The available overnight shelters for this time period are:

  • Lower Bucks (through Thursday night, Jan. 31): Woodside Church, 1667 Edgewood Road, Morrisville. Opens at 9 p.m.
  • Lower Bucks (starting Friday night, Feb. 1): Calvary Baptist Church, 250 Green Lane, Bristol. Opens at 9 p.m.
  • Central Bucks: Doylestown Presbyterian Church, 127 East Court Street, Doylestown. Opens at 7:30 p.m.
  • Upper Bucks: Quakertown Masonic Lodge, 501 West Broad Street, Quakertown. Opens at 8:15 p.m.

Emergency Management has notified the above shelters of the Code Blue declaration. On-call volunteers from each location will coordinate transportation, temporary shelter, food and other necessities. Local public safety departments also have been alerted.

All county residents are urged to monitor their pets and any neighbors who are elderly or have special needs during times of extreme weather.
